Libraries

From the outset, the mission of the WCC library has been to bring together books and papers pertaining to the field of ecumenism, and it continues to do this today. But over the years it has also opened its shelves to other fields such as ecclesiology, missiology, church history (see Collections). At present it holds more than 130,000 volumes.

The WCC library is housed in two locations, i.e. Geneva and Bossey. You will of course find reference books in both places, but the rest of the Collection has been divided according to subject matter, so that each site can develop its own areas of excellence.

Areas of specialisation housed in Geneva:

  • ecumenism
  • confessions
  • interfaith dialogue
  • politics
  • racism
  • human rights
  • international relations
  • international law

Areas of specialisation housed at Bossey:

  • biblical sciences
  • missiology
  • Third World theologies
  • feminism
  • social and economic ethics
  • sociology
  • religions
